Here’s How It Works

  • Who do we serve?

Burleson ISD counselors and teachers identify students who are at risk of weekend hunger. Through daily interactions, they observe signs such as frequent hunger, hoarding food, or expressing concern about meals at home. They also consider students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunches and may lack consistent access to food outside of school.

  • How is the food gathered?

Our program relies on the generosity of our community to provide food for children in need. We receive support through both food donations and financial contributions, which allow us to purchase kid-friendly, shelf-stable items in bulk. We also partner with local food banks to supplement our inventory and stretch every dollar further.

  • What's the process of getting the food to the children in need?

Each week, dedicated volunteers gather to pack bags filled with nutritious, easy-to-prepare food items for children in need. Every Thursday, these bags are delivered to 18 schools across the Burleson Independent School District.

  • What kind of food is given?

We provide non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food items such as soup, canned pasta, boxed cereal, fruit cups, cereal bars, ramen, and more. Each child receives 15 items every weekend—five for each day: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This ensures they have consistent access to meals until they return to school on Monday.

  • How can I help?

Whether through financial contributions or volunteer efforts, we are building a coalition of hunger warriors to support the nearly 8% of Burleson ISD students living at or below the poverty line. From packing and delivering food bags to making one-time or monthly donations, there are many ways for you or your organization to make a meaningful impact.

  • Is my gift tax-deductible?

We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, dedicated to fighting childhood hunger in our community. All donations are tax-deductible.
